The Águilas/Guadalentín desalination plant has one of the most optimized high-pressure systems in Spain and worldwide. The facility's high pressure system is at the forefront of the technology currently available.
Sacyr Agua was responsible for the design, construction and operation of the desalination plant, the second largest in the world. It has the capacity to produce 210,000 m3 of water per day and has sustainable and eco-efficient systems. It produces desalinated water for high-yield agriculture in the provinces of Alicante, Murcia and Almeria, with an irrigation capacity of approximately 16,000 hectares.
The plant incorporates important distribution and pumping systems so the water can reach different users. It also features advanced systems for the diffusion and dissolution of brine in the sea, helping to protect the environment.
The treatment process spans four phases: pre-treatment by means of double filtration (gravity and pressure), double pass reverse osmosis to eliminate boron; recovery of energy using isobaric chambers; remineralization.
