The wastewater treatment and reclamation plant of Northeast Tenerife, located in Valle Guerra, La Laguna, is a landmark in the change of water cycle model toward production of regenerated water, which focuses on increasing the availability of water resources in a context of climate emergency in many areas of the world.
The plant has a design purification capacity of 7,000 m3/day, and it currently treats about 5,000 m3/day, processing 100% of the water sent to it. It can also produce 4,000 cubic meters per day of reclaimed water for agricultural use. The facility is equipped with the latest technology to reduce costs, reduce odors and return water in the best conditions.
The project carried out by Sacyr won the Agustín de Betancourt Award for the Best Civil Engineering Work (2014-2018) in the Canary Islands. The award recognizes the best project with specialized and advanced technology that provides quality water for agricultural use and has a significant impact on social and environmental wellbeing.
The Island Water Council of Tenerife awarded Sacyr the contract to operate the plant for 4 more years, following the termination of the facility’s previous operations and maintenance contract.
